We believe in using lasting materials, giving our jewelry a long life span. Our hand cast jewelry is crafted from recycled silver and gold for the gold vermeil jewelry.

Silver

Sterling silver (925) is an alloy made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. Our silver jewelry is plated with rhodium to give it extra durability and shine. It can still oxidise, especially if you don’t keep it in a box or a pouch when you don’t use it, but you can easily restore silver back to shine by using a polishing cloth or a lotion.

Gold and gold vermeil

Solid 18K gold versions of our jewelry can be ordered, but for customers who want to wear gold without the substantial pricetag, we offer the best alternative to solid gold; gold vermeil which is a high quality, heavy gold plating. Our gold vermeil jewelery is coated in 18k gold and is 3 microns thick.

For a piece of jewelry to be considered gold vermeil it must have a thick layer of at least 10k gold on sterling silver. The thickness of the gold layer gives a long-wearing quality piece of jewelery but is much more affordable than solid gold.

What’s the difference to regular gold plating?

Normal gold plating has a thin layer that often wears off fast. It’s often refered to as costume jewery. Gold plated jewelry usuallyhas a base of brass, copper or stainless steel instead of silver and can be as thin as 0.5 micron. (A micron is 1/1000th of a millimetre.) Anything less than that is called gold flashed or gold washed.

If you want your piece to last, opt for gold vermeil. You still need to care for it though. Take it off while swimming or showering and store it well at night, prefereably in a cloth bag. If you really want to take good care of your jewelry, wipe it down with a soft cloth after a day of wear, since your body’s oils and sweat can tarnish it. This will give you a long lasting piece of jewelry.
